Memories are the past events that you hold close to you, like your child’s birthday or your wedding day. For some the dates only are there for reasons outside of the normal, examples are quitting smoking or drinking, however those memories hold meaning to the person themselves.
A date that sticks out for me is January 26th, 2005. A random day for everyone else, for me and my family it was the day I woke up on the mental ward in Halifax. Most people have said to move on and I have, the thing is that day every year I thank God for sending my mother to come and find me. I have come a long way since that date, but it is both positive and negative as I was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few days later.
For what memories are to be is of lessons from out past. In what you do today is to have been from those moments. An example is how you treat the people who are in your life. If you were treated badly, that is how you deal with people because that is all you know. It comes down to you learning that treating people with any type of abuse is wrong, the hard part is that when people are like that it started at a young age. Nonetheless people can change for the better.
In this small world we are always being reminded about the bad day and one of those days is September 11th, 2001. As someone who seen it on TV, I could not believe what I saw. The feeling of helplessness for freedom came into view. As well, it was something that change the course of life for all Americans being shown that even the bad things that happen in other countries around the world can happen to them. It was a wakeup call, however I do not think the truth of the message was sent to those who lived through the aftermath and the war that followed.
There have been other day like the dropping of the two Atomic bombs on Japan that ended the war between Japan and the USA. It was unthinkable of what would happen in the world after that and we saw the rise of the cold war with Russia. Thus, every event that happens is just a random day on this planet we live on. We can destroy ourselves and the world will keep going on.
The more that society focuses on the negative things as the news stations from far and wide feed people, they only feeds fear and keeps people following like sheep. The reason why I on the day of September 11th, 2001, started to pull away from all media in general. As of today, which is January 6, 2024, I watch little to no TV or even read news outtakes on social media because I have no use for it. The main reason is because I want to live my own life my way as I do not need to know what is happening in the world. If it does not affect me personally and most of it does not and even if it did, there is nothing I can do about it.
The more that society lives in the negative events that are gripping this world, like the constant wars that happen in the Middle East and what is happening in Eastern Europe are what is making news. By showing is putting it in the spotlight, why do we not show those people who are making a difference in the lives of those who suffer from mental heath issues or the lives of the homeless to help them into jobs and housing? The reason is because kindness does not sell and no one would remember those deeds.
The memories that we share with friends and family are the good times that have been spent together. For the memories alone, they all mold us into the people that we are. If was not for the things that have happened in our lives we would not grow as a person, society or race.
In today’s world we can only live our own lives and most people try to tell us how to live and well that is something that has to stop. In no way should someone tell you how to live your life nor what to share as special days you remember. You are in control of your life, so live it and stop letting people from telling you what to do.
Stay safe.
